Scientists from CPSBB participate in a journalistic project on longevity

The Bulgarian journalist Mira Dobreva presented her book, “The Centenarians 2: The Mystery of Longevity,” as a continuation of her documentary project dedicated to people who have reached and surpassed the age of one hundred.
In the book, Mira Dobreva publishes the stories of 148 centenarians she met across Bulgaria. The edition not only preserves their memories and wisdom, but also seeks the scientific answer to the question: What lies behind longevity?
In her effort to understand which biological, genetic, and epigenetic factors allow some people to reach and exceed the age of 100, Mira Dobreva turned to science. During her research for the book, she met with Prof. Dr. Milen Georgiev, Head of the “Plant Cell Biotechnology” department of CPSBB. During her visit to the Center of Excellence in Plovdiv, the author also met the research team working in the field of longevity and the extension of healthy human lifespan.
The conversation with Prof. Georgiev is included in the book and presents the scientific perspective on the topic of longevity.
“Healthy aging is a key priority for scientists worldwide working in the field of longevity research. When we speak of longevity, modern science focuses on extending the period of optimal health and quality of human life. Longevity by itself does not make life fulfilling; on the contrary — it is a fulfilling life that makes longevity possible,” Prof. Georgiev emphasized during the official book premiere.
The event took place at the “Peroto” Literary Club in Sofia and gathered hundreds of readers, scientific experts, journalists, and friends of the author.
