Proficient scientists from all over the world took part in the second edition of the international conference ICPSBB 2023
On 25-27 September 2023 the second edition of the INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON PLANT SYSTEMS BIOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY (ICPSBB 2023) was held in Plovdiv. Тhe event took place in the newly built scientific complex of CPSBB, gathering scientists from five continents and over 20 countries (Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, China, New Zealand, South Africa, United States of America, Germany, Israel, India, Brazil, Chile, etc.).
ICPSBB 2023 is an initiative of Center for Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology (CPSBB) – the first Bulgarian Center of Excellence in plant biology and biotechnology. It is funded by the European Commission within the PlantaSYST project and under the “Teaming” call of “Horizon 2020” programme, also co-financed by the Bulgarian Operational Programme “Science and Education for Smart Growth” through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
“We are proud to welcome to Bulgaria renowned scientists from all over the world, who traveled to Bulgaria to share their knowledge and top-notch scientific expertise. The contribution of CPSBB in this exchange is significant, proving Bulgaria’s potential to develop and promote scientific excellence on a world level”, points out Prof. Tsanko Gechev, Director of CPSBB and Chairman of the ICPSBB’s Organizing Committee. He welcomed the participants, presenting them the newly built complex and the scientific activities of the Center.
“Having you here today is another proof that in the last few years Plovdiv has developed enormously as an attractive destination for conference tourism and investments in applied and fundamental scientific research. We are very proud to have you all here today and I am convinced that the programme of the conference, prepared by CPSBB, will offer you many productive opportunities for knowledge-sharing and development of your professional skills. Since the very beginning of the project PlantaSYST, 10 years ago, I have had no doubt that this project would be crucial for the development of Bulgarian plant science. We are proud that CPSBB is located in Plovdiv, in the Center of Bulgaria, and that the Municipality of Plovdiv is a main partner in this significant scientific initiative”, said Mr. Stefan Stoyanov, Deputy Mayor of Plovdiv Municipality.
The conference offered lecture sessions, poster exhibitions and discussion panels, covering topics related to abiotic and oxidative stress in plants; bioinformatics and computer modeling, plant biotechnology, genetics and genomics, molecular biology, plant development, evolutionary biology, etc.
Prof. Dr. Roberto Papa (Marche Polytechnic University, Italy), Prof. Dr. Robert VanBuren (Michigan University, USA), Prof. Dr. Paul Dijkwell (Massey University, New Zealand), Prof. Dr. Alain Goossens (Ghent University, Gent, Belgium), Prof. Dr. Mark Aarts (Wageningen University, The Netherlands), Prof. Dr. Xin Deng (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China), and other prominent professors were among the speakers of the lecture sessions.
Poster presentations were organized with exhibitions, presenting to the visitors scientific research and current projects, conducted by CPSBB (NatGenCrop, CropPrime, BOOSTER, HelathyDiets4Africa, RESIST, etc.)
