CPSBB Presents Research on Sustainable Crop Production at HealthyDiets4Africa Annual Consortium Meeting
As a consortium partner CPSBB presents research and results on sustainable crop production at HealthyDiets4Africa Annual Consortium Meeting, hosted by Africa Rice Centre in Mbe, Côte d’Ivoire. The event brings together representatives of 21 partner institutions – 12 African and 9 European – to review project progress, present research findings, and discuss innovative approaches to food system diversification, nutrition, and sustainability.
Prof. Dr. Tsanko Gechev, Director of CPSBB, presented the Center’s research activities and results on improving the productivity and resilience of economically important crops including tomatoes, peppers, berry crops, and others through the application of plant biostimulants derived from brown seaweed.
The research explores the potential of natural biostimulants to enhance crop performance, increase yields, and improve plant tolerance to environmental stress, contributing to more sustainable and resilient agricultural production.
The Annual Consortium Review Meeting provides an opportunity for project partners to exchange scientific knowledge, discuss progress across the different Work Packages, and strengthen international collaboration towards more sustainable and diversified food systems.
About HealthyDiets4Africa
Funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme, HealthyDiets4Africa (2023–2028) brings together 21 research institutions and organisations from Africa and Europe.
The project aims to combat malnutrition and improve food and nutrition security by promoting more diverse, sustainable, and resilient food systems in eight African countries: Benin, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Uganda.
Its activities focus on developing innovative agricultural technologies, diversifying crop production, improving the nutritional quality and availability of food, and encouraging the adoption of healthy, affordable, and sustainable diets.
Through interdisciplinary research and international cooperation, HealthyDiets4Africa seeks to strengthen food security while reducing the environmental impact of agricultural production.
