CPSBB researcher takes part in a media project on longevity

Prof. Milen Georgiev, Head of research departments at CPSBB and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), will be a featured guest in an upcoming documentary on longevity authored by the Bulgarian journalist Mira Dobreva. The film is scheduled to air on the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) this autumn and will showcase several distinguished scientists whose research focuses on healthy aging.
Mira Dobreva is also the author of two books devoted to people who have lived beyond the remarkable age of one hundred. In her latest book, “Centenarians 2: The Mystery of Longevity”, Mrs.Dobreva presents the stories and conversations of 148 centenarians she met while travelling across Bulgaria. Beyond preserving their memories, life philosophies, and messages for future generations, the book also explores a fundamental scientific question: What lies behind human longevity?
Seeking to better understand the biological, genetic, and epigenetic factors that enable some individuals to reach and surpass one hundred years of age, Dobreva turned to the scientific community. During the preparation of the book, she met with Prof. Dr. Milen Georgiev. During her visit to CPSBB, she also had the opportunity to meet the research team working on healthy longevity and the extension of the human healthspan.
Prof. Georgiev’s interview is featured in the book, offering a scientific perspective on the mechanisms and determinants of longevity.
“Healthy aging is a key priority for researchers working in the field of longevity. When we talk about longevity, modern science is primarily focused on extending the period of optimal health and quality of life. Longevity alone does not make life meaningful; rather, it is a meaningful and fulfilling life that makes longevity possible,” Prof. Georgiev emphasized during the official launch of the book.
