As a leading European institute in the fields of plant sciences with the ambition to integrate modern molecular biology, genomics, metabolomics, bioengineering, and plant genetics, making new discoveries in plant biology and transforming scientific findings into new biotechnological and industrial applications, CPSBB will serve as the core of a plant science hub. This hub will consolidate academic and business institutions, plant science associations, farmers, end-users, and administrative institutions in the region for the benefit of society.
Goal 1: Highest quality and productivity of scientific research in the field of plant systems biology and biotechnology; Publications with high impact factor in international scientific journals; Participation in international projects
Goal 2: New products for the Bulgarian and global markets (breeders, farmers, end-users), particularly new diagnostic tools and technologies for the breeding of new plant varieties, new vegetable varieties resistant to biotic and abiotic stress, vegetable crops with improved yield stability and nutritional qualities, enhanced resistance during harvest or processing, as well as plant-derived products with new pharmaceutical properties for innovative applications in medicine.
Goal 3: Retaining and attracting the best specialists in the fields of plant science and bioinformatics. Overall, increased national and international visibility and attractiveness.
Goal 4: CPSBB will further develop existing links with academia and business, as well as establish new partnerships with universities, research institutes, and companies in the region.
Total budget: 13,857,943.00 BGN, of which European funding: 11,779,251.55 BGN and National funding: 2,078,691.45 BGN.
