Students from the “Dimitar Matevski” Secondary School in Plovdiv Visited CPSBB as a Practical Training in Natural Sciences
Students from the “Dimitar Matevski” Secondary School visited CPSBB as part of their practical education in natural sciences. The students were welcomed by Dr. Nikola Staykov (Molecular Biologist), Eng. Dr. Alicja Wieteska (Agronomist), and Dr. Nikolay Anachkov (Plant Biologist).
The scientific team guided the visitors through CPSBB’s greenhouses, specialized rooms, and laboratories so that they could witness in person the facilities and working conditions the Bulgarian Center of Excellence could provide them if one day they decide to develop a scientific career in the field of plant systems biology and biotechnology.
The students were introduced to some of the ongoing research projects, including NatGenCrop and HealthyDiets4Africa. They observed tomato and pepper plantations in the greenhouse facilities of CPSBB. The plants are cultivated under controlled drought and soil salinity stress conditions with the main research goal to improve the tolerance of economically significant crops to climate change and abiotic stressors, drought and soil salinity in particular.
The CPSBB team engages with students, aiming to foster a collaborative and inspiring atmosphere that could potentially encourage the young generation for a future scientific career.
