The Head of the Plant Cell Biotechnology Department at CPSBB was invited as a Co-Editor of the prestigious journal “Phytomedicine”

After 10 years of serving the Phytomedicine journal as an Associated Editor, The Head of the Plant Cell Biotechnology Department at CPSBB – Prof. Milen Georgiev was invited to become a member of the Editorial Board as a Co-Editor of the journal.
Established in 1994 and published by Elsevier, Phytomedicine is the official journal of the European Scientific Cooperative on Phytotherapy (ESCOP). The journal focuses on setting scientific standards and methodologies in the study of phytomedicines (plant-derived therapeutic products), prioritizing therapeutic-oriented research on plant extracts, isolated compounds, and phytopharmaceuticals. The impact factor of the journal is 8.3, h-index 150 and the journal is ranked Q1 in categories such as Complementary & Alternative Medicine, Drug Discovery, Molecular Medicine, Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmacology.
“It was a long and exciting journey over the last 10 years – back to these days, we were only five editors handling 1300-1500 manuscripts per year. Nowadays, the journal receives six times more submissions, has an impact factor of 8.3 (Q1) and is among the most prestigious journals in the field of natural products”, highlights Prof. Georgiev.
The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University (MU) in Sofia – Prof. Georgi Momekov officially greeted Prof. Georgiev on behalf of the Faculty and the Bulgarian Scientific Pharmaceutical Society:

This is not only well-deserved personal triumph, reflecting his exceptional work over the past decade, but also a significant recognition of the strength and international standing of Bulgarian research in natural products science. His dedication has helped shape “Phytomedicine” into one of the leading journals in the field, and this achievement resonates far beyond the personal sphere – it is a testament to the vitality and excellence of our national scientific community”, outlined prof. Momekov.
